What is Nihon Goshin Aikido?Nihon Goshin Aikido (NGA) is a martial art which combines the principles of circular motion with joint manipulation and striking techniques. A form decended from Aikijujitsu, Nihon Goshin Aikido was developed in Japan by Master Shodo Morita. It was brought to the United States by Shihan Richard Bowe, now head of the Nihon Goshin Aikido Association based in North Bergen New Jersey. Nihon Goshin Aikido is a more practical art of self defense than traditional Aikido. It is more scientific in its approach to technique and teaching methods. Nihon Goshin Aikido is a more ethical form of defense than many other martial arts. Practitioners believe that in today's society one must be able to defend against and neutralize aggression without inflicting unnecessary harm on an aggressor. Therefore, to reach the level of Sho-Dan, or black belt, practitioners must demonstrate control over themselves as well as their attackers. Nihon Goshin Aikido is not an art that requires strength. In fact, strong people must often learn to ignore their strength to master aikido. Men and women, boys and girls can all learn to be effective aikido practitioners regardless of body size. |
